Community Updates from Dr. Bob: 9/27/2023
It’s been exciting to see Community’s Discipleship Lab growing! We have more people now than we did when it started, and together we are working out our discipleship in the context of supportive community. What does it look like to live as a disciple? What do we actually do? How can we encourage one another and help one another along the way?
It’s one thing to know about following Jesus. It’s another thing to put it into practice. As we’re continuing our series on Living and Loving Like Jesus, we see that it’s not just the intellectual knowledge, but the putting it into practice that makes the difference. We’re working on this together, one step at a time, so join in! Mondays through Nov. 13th 6:30-7:30pm (join us at 6pm for a casual dinner and fellowship); RSVP here.
As we live as disciples and make disciples, we are helping one another to live as Jesus did and to follow him with their whole hearts. Yet it can be helpful to stop and think about the why. What’s the RESULT of all the effort we put into making disciples? The result is what we will someday see together, described in Revelation 7:9-10:
After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. 10 And they cried out in a loud voice:
“Salvation belongs to our God,
who sits on the throne,
and to the Lamb.”
Making disciples: that is why we are still here. Our mission is to make disciples to populate heaven. In heaven, the worship will be better. The deep community with one another will be better. Our understanding of God and his ways will be better. But the one thing we can’t do in heaven is make disciples. God has a heart to reach people and we are his chosen instruments to do that. So that’s why we are here now—to fulfill the mission Jesus has entrusted to us.
