Community Update from Dr. Bob: 6/5/2024
This Friday… Come to Friday Night Church!
Friday Night Church starts this coming Friday, June 7. It’s designed to be a more interactive worship experience with the purpose of reaching people who can’t or won’t come to a Sunday morning service, as well as a time of intentional equipping for those who are serious about living out the mission of Jesus.
The format will be different—we’ll be around tables for discussion instead of being seated theatre-style for a more supportive, relational environment. We’ll have a table for middle school students, a table for high school students, and age-appropriate activities for children all under the same roof. For our very youngest, nursery care will be available as well.
We’ve been talking about Friday Night Church—now it’s time for the big launch. Come join us and see what a more creative form of church can look like!
Begin with prayer
As we begin to engage with the BLESS acronym this summer, the first letter B is for Begin with Prayer. As you go forth into the environments where God has placed you—whether you like those environments or not—be proactive about praying for those around you. Here are a few ideas:
- Ask God for discernment about who you can be praying for.
- Pray for people by name.
- Pray for people consistently.
- Check in with these people to see how they are doing.
- Ask God how you can free up time and energy to bless them.
- Ask God who he wants you to be reaching and who he wants you to be connecting with?
- Ask God to show you where he is already at work.
- Reflect on some fun things you plan to do this summer anyway. Then think how you can include some people who don’t know Jesus into those activities.
Here is a prayer you can practice praying throughout this week:
Dear Lord Jesus, please help me to pray not only for myself–my wants, needs, hurts, and hopes–but for my neighbors as well. Help me to hold their lives as equal to my own, interceding before you to make yourself known to them and to make your Spirit manifest in their lives. Amen
See you Friday (service begins at 6:30pm; doors open at 6:00pm for pizza)! Of course, our Sunday time has also shifted to 9:45am for the summer. Either way, we’re excited to reconnect this weekend and see how God continues to lead us towards being a people of blessing for our workplaces, neighborhoods, and everyday life!
