There’s nothing like sharing a good meal with good people. Some of my favorite memories revolve around the dinner table… yes, great food, but it’s also about the company. Whether it’s reuniting with old friends or meeting new friends, something special happens when we gather around a dinner table together.
Don’t take my word for it. Through the prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 26:6), God tells us to expect the new heaven and new earth to look a lot like a great meal:
On this mountain the LORD Almighty will prepare
a feast of rich food for all peoples,
a banquet of aged wine—
the best of meats and the finest of wines.
My prayer is that our Dinner Groups in November give us just a small foretaste of Isaiah’s vision of a heavenly banquet. There’s nothing crazy here: just share a meal, spend some time with friends (new and old alike), and enjoy some good conversation! We’ve got homes across the valley – so find a dinner group near you with a date that works for you.
Explore groups HERE. After you sign-up, the hosts will reach out to give you the exact address and any other details. The vibe is more family reunion/backyard bbq than formal dinner on grandma’s best china, so plan to bring a side dish, salad, or desert to share.
Listen, I get it. It’s easier to stay home and watch Netflix. It’s easier to stay in our comfortable routines. Community takes work! It’s an investment and a risk. But hear me: it’s so worth it. You need the support and friendship of others as you move towards Jesus. And others at this dinner need you – they need a friend, a connection, an example. Yes, it’s easier to opt-out… but it’s so much better if we opt-in. Community is a win-win that we’ll only experience on the other side of saying “yes” to that risk!
We’ve got great hosts all over the valley. Come meet some neighbors who are venturing to live and love like Jesus – just like you!
