The Art of Marriage Workshop, led by Kristopher Anderson (LMFT) on February 6, was an amazing experience for each of the 48 couples in attendance. Each couple renewed both their affection and appreciation of each other, as well as taking their communication to much deeper levels. We spent time identifying and affirming our mate’s strengths, examining (and addressing) barriers to effective communication, and were reminded that God designed sex as a way for couples to fall in love over and over again.
Couples shared a powerful 5 minutes in silence, just sitting knee-to-knee, holding hands, and looking intently into each other’s eyes, with the challenge to open their hearts to their mate, creating a safe environment. (A lot of people needed to reach for tissues!) Next, each couple entered into intimate dialogue in order to identify the top 2 emotional needs of their spouse, and to list 3 things they could do to meet these emotional needs. (More tissues required!)
The afternoon portion of the workshop was designed to assist couples in developing a vision for their marriage, which included the identification of shared goals (5 or less), as well as at least 3 specific things they could do to accomplish each goal. Each couple left the workshop with a renewed closeness to their spouse, as well as a detailed plan for making their marriage even stronger.
Kris Anderson did an extremely good job setting the appropriate tone, breaking down complicated tasks into very doable steps, and assisting ALL couples in developing an excitement for growing together as a couple. Thank you, Kris, for an amazing experience!
