Community Updates from Dr. Bob: 8/09/2023
The way of Jesus is the way to joy!
With intentionality and perspective we can embrace the joy of a life with Jesus—even during those times we’re in difficult circumstances. It is my prayer that you are increasingly experiencing this reality. For it is the foundation of our life with God and each other. Then we can say with Paul:
But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:13b-14)
Mark your calendars for Vision Night!
We’ll be kicking off the fall season at Community with a celebratory time together that includes providing the latest updates on where we’re headed as a church. We’ll have dinner together followed by a church update for adults and special children’s ministry time (including nursery). You won’t want to miss this event. More details to come!

Celebrating A Work of Art
We’ve gotten phenomenal reviews from those who participated in our Work of Art workshop. Be sure to check your Friday email to hear—and see—more about what this experience was like and some of the fruits of it.
Feeling too busy? Let’s sort our priorities together
I’ve been around this church now long enough to know that everybody is busy. There’s a lot to do, and that will only ramp up with the fall. So we’re going to do a short—but very practical and helpful—sermon series soon on sorting out your priorities. Join us August 26 and September 3 to reflect on what the Bible has to say about priorities, managing our time, and meeting our responsibilities… all while staying sane. If you’re too busy to come in person, you can listen afterwards online, but join us at to find out how to live a life with less stress and more meaning.
Prayer walk
We’d love to spend time walking and praying with you. We meet at 8:30am every Wednesday at the church and walk for 20 minutes as we pray for the neighborhood and church.
What’s ahead
Through wisdom and prayer, we have identified the following priorities for this fall. Your prayers are appreciated as we work out the details.
- Deeper and more personalized approach to children and youth ministry
- A renewed focus on living like Jesus did and making disciples
- Increased readiness to receive our new senior pastor candidates
We will keep you updated on each of these areas as we have more specific information. In the meantime, please join us in prayer and in hope for the future God has for us.
Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. (Romans 8:23-25)
