Community Update from Dr. Bob: 5/29/2024
Over the first part of the summer, we’ll be starting a new sermon series: Blessed to Be a Blessing. It focuses on how we have been blessed by God—even when it doesn’t always feel like it—and are therefore called to be a blessing to others. Over the next few weeks, we’ll look at the lives of some important biblical characters–Abraham, Joseph, Moses, Ruth, Daniel, and Esther– to see the ways in which they were blessed by God and turned that around to become a blessing for others as well.
During this season, we’ll also be practicing blessing others in practical ways through the acronym BLESS. We’re going to practice finding ways to BLESS our neighbors in these ways:
- Begin with prayer
- Listen
- Eat
- Serve
- Share our story
Also, over the summer we’ll be having a few new things coming our way.
The first is Friday night church! For those who want a more relational, interactive form of church, we’ll be having services every Friday night at 6:30pm beginning next Friday, June 7. There will still be teaching time, worship, and communion, but the emphasis will be on discussion and on supporting one another on mission. Doors open at 6pm if you’d like something light to eat before we get started.
We’ll also have tables for students (middle school and high school), as well as an activity center for elementary kids (nursery care for the little ones as well). High school students will be heading out to the Colonies for dessert and group time afterwards (email Colson for more on that: colsonayars@findcommunity.com)! This is a great opportunity to invite someone who can’t plug into a Sunday service. For more information, click here: https://findcommunity.com/fridaynightchurch/
Also, June 21-23—at both the Friday night service at 6:30pm and the Sunday morning service at 9:45am—we’ll be having some special guests from ASPIRE Network, a cooperative of likeminded churches which we have partnered with for decades. Their mission is to work with churches to help assess, with prayerful deliberation, what God has been preparing for their church. You can find out more about their organization here — Aspire Network.
