Next sermon series: Spiritual Styles
Starting this coming weekend, we’ll be launching a new three-week sermon series: Spiritual Styles: Building a lasting bond with God for you and the children you love.
Jesus called us to make disciples, and to make disciples who then go on to make other disciples. Nowhere is this mandate more important than from generation to generation. Whether or not you are a parent, you are still called to make disciples of the next generation. That is essential so those disciples can then go on to make disciples of the next generation.
This upcoming three-week series is really important. Part of what we are called to do is to make an impact on the next generation, but the ability to do so is rooted in our own heart and our own connection with God. We need to first form an intimate, lasting bond with Jesus, where we are willing to follow him and obey his commands, come what may.
So let’s come together to learn how to invest in what lasts. A survey of 95-year-olds asked people what they would do differently if they had their lives to live over again. The top three responses? Reflect more, risk more, and give my life to that which lasts. Investing in discipleship for the next generation is definitely something that lasts.
Friday Night Church is a great place to invite your friends who care about their kids’ spiritual lives. We have middle school and high school students who actively participate. Friday Night Church provides the same content as the Sunday morning service but will go deeper. It’s a supportive environment for those who want to wrestle with important questions and discern ways to apply the principles in their situations.
Please join me in praying together for this upcoming series:
Lord Jesus, please give us an undivided heart, a heart that seeks you, a heart that is committed to you and your mission. Give us the courage to go beyond where we are comfortable ourselves in order to seek your will for this next generation. Allow that commitment to be true of my own life, so I can freely and selflessly invest in the lives of the children I care about, as well as any others you place in my path. Empower me to live outwardly, and for you and your kingdom, rather than for my own comfort—that my life may reflect the life of Jesus. Amen
Join together with your brothers and sisters in Christ to devote your energy outward to this next generation—and in doing so, invest in what will last.
